Tournaments, Painting, and general laziness

Oh man I haven't posted in such a long time, and allow me to follow my time honoured tradition of claiming that all of that is behind me and the future only holds a post filled paradise. I have started painting again though so that's nice, and we all went to a super sweet 9th Age tournament in Montreal at the beginning of May.

Let's start with the painting, I've finally video gamed myself out after finishing my engineering degree and turned to more nobel pursuits like painting and listening to mediocre tv shows. So my first project was the only model that was conveniently sitting on my desk when I decided that Idris Elba isn't actually all that interesting but I'd invested enough in the show to want to at least listen to how it ends. This Tomb Cataphract is following the original paint scheme with a couple minor differences, 1 being that my midnight blue has been replaced by a non-hethen paint from a real art store and that my hawk turquoise has be replaced by a temple guard blue (of the hethen variety). They both seem to do a good job and the coverage is pretty good for a single coat.

Ronin

Hey guys,

Just wanted to post something for the sake of keeping in touch, and share some cool gaming stuff I've been getting up to.

I recently picked up some figs for a second DBA force, the post-mongol samurai. Then, while at Hot Lead with Ben I had a chance to pick up some Osprey gaming books, one of which is Ronin: Skirmish Wargaming in the Age of the Samurai. How fitting!

This post has no pics for 2 reasons 1. I'm at work right now. 2. I haven't painted anything new since the last samurai I posted.

9th Age Chaos Mortals

Hey dudes.

I can't comment at work, but I can make new posts. This is largely a reply to Jed's post about his empire army. I thought it would be cool to post my WIP list as well, and hopefully start a trend and some upbeat discussion.

I'm also going to mention the paint status of these models. This is mostly for me as a reality check. I think this chaos army of mine could really compete for painting, if I can buckle down and get it done. It sure is nice to not have to worry about exams.... suckers.

Without further ado........

My Empire for 9th Age

With little prompting, we have almost all decided to play in a 9th age tournament. As I don't really have an army, I figured I'd cobble one together out of shit I found in the Darkster's basement. Considering he had the majority of an empire army lying around this wouldn't be totes impossible.

My list is below. As well as the models i have /need. Advice would be welcome, especially on magic items.

Samurai Update

I ordered some bases for my new DBA stuff, opting for wooden bases this time around. I like the steel for magnetising, but I think the wooden ones look better having a deep edge.
While I wait I'm painting up a few single samurai for potential skirmish/test colour purposes. From this selection I think the red really stands out. Still want to try some more colours. I concocted a rusty looking orange that I think has legs.

The lighting  in my room is kinda weird, this picture is really washed out. The green tie-dye shirt makes an awesome backdrop, in my humble opinion.

Later, nerds.

Sewer Scavengers

As cool as 15mm (or 10 or 6, no not 6) is for actually gaming, I can't get over how much fun 28s are to paint. I picked up these sewer scavengers essentially for no reason at all. I know they'll get used for some sort of Jak themed sci-fi skirmish, one way or another.

This band of merry men is like 99.9% painted. I'll probably never finish them. Such is life. The models are crooked dice sewer scavengers.
