I have returned, with new models

I have finally found some time to post, mostly because I have more time now but also partly because of the slanderous remarks of my comrades.

I recently picked up a box of Necropolis Knights and I just finished assembling them to my liking. Over the next couple of weeks I'm going to post pics of the different steps I take in basing, painting and finishing these knights. I plan to use a light wood filler for the majority of the base as a sand effect as well as on the model in some places in an attempt to model the special rule EBtS (Entombed Beneath the Sands). I will most likely smooth some places out with some green stuff as the models have a couple of flaws then I'll spray and paint.

Wings of Glory Dogfight Report

Me and The Darkster picked up Wings of Glory. This'll be my first battle report of sorts so it'll be poorly written and will likely have some wholes. Darko played as the Axis, I played as the Allies

I took a picture and updated after every card as opposed to every turn so you can get a good idea of the flight paths.

We took turns deploying. I deployed the P-40 first, then Darko counter deployed the Re.2001. I planned on double teaming the Re.2001, so I put the Yak-1 as the wingman. Darko deployed the Ki-61 to flank my aircraft.

I spread the two planes to snatch that Re.2001. Darko made an attempt to get around both sides.

I managed to get one plane in range, but The Darkster was also in arc. My plane got the best out of the deal, I drew two zero damage counters, Darks's started smoking.

The P-40 and the Re.2001 passed very close but were unfortunately out of arc. The Ki-61 took a fast sweeping turn and pounded my Yak-1. It quite quickly burst into flames. Not quite going down it limped off.

 The P-40 pulled an Immelman turn barely avoiding the arcs of Ki-61 and started heading towards the Re.2001. The Re.2001 pulled the same maneuver to get in head to head.

The P-40 and the Re.2001 screamed in and shot each other down. The both went down screaming to hell in a molten fireball. Awesome.

Meanwhile the Ki-61 pulled around like a drunken farmer to finish off the wounded Yak. Less awesome.

Thanks to the flames and that scary cannon on the Ki-61, the Yak was put out of it's misery quickly, much to my disappointment.

Neeooooooooowww, Dakka Dakka.

All in all a good game, to pick up and play. We probably did something wrong, but it was a quick fun game to pick up and play. We should pick up some of the individual aircraft they sell and have crazy battles and count kills and make aces and count deaths and cool ass shit. 

Battlefleet Gothic - Imperial Fleet

I'm finally getting around to posting a big dump of my Battlefleet Gothic photos...ever since portmaw went down I've had no place to show these, so here goes! The flash somewhat ruined the shadows and made them blue, but the lamp I used kinda made them all look grey...some of both pics. The ones below are pretty much the actual colour however. The Emperor's Finest!

A closeup of The Vindicator, the flagship...can be either an Emperor or an Oberon class thanks to magnets. I'm a real fan of the Oberon's versatility but the shorter range on most of its weapons is a real downer.

 The heavies. The three cruisers have blutack to change out weapons...not quite as elegant as the battleship but it does the trick. I run one as a battlecruiser and one with the torpedo ports filled over and a nova cannon (back left) does duty as a Dominion or nova-Lunar.

 Dauntless light cruisers, with the flash on. I run them with torpedoes rather than lances, two of these guys putting out a devastating 12 torps for relatively few points.

And the bases of the non-escorts are below. I spent a good amount of time on those scrolls, it wasn't as tedious to paint as it may seem (they got pretty quick). Painting the letters was really the hardest part.

There were pictures on imageshack of an imperial science vessel I made from a tau cyclic ion blaster and gubbinz, but they are now lost in the warp. Next time I'm home I'll grab a few pics of it.  For the Emperor!

Army lists

Firstly, I finally got around to this treeman, and I'm pretty happy with how it's turning out.

Second, when we started this blog one of my original hopes was to use it as an outlet for discussion.

And so, I propose a discussion topic: pre-written, all comers (within the relevant meta) army lists.

For fantasy I have always been a strong advocate for 2400 points for a few reasons. First, that's what they play at the Nexus, which is useful for me since I already have a list at that point level. I also really like the having my 25% be 600 as opposed to 625, not that the math is any harder, but it feels like a cleaner points value. The question that arises then is concerning smaller point games.

Should we simply use multiples of 400? It would follow the same kind of idea. Often we think to use multiples of 500, but I would argue that 1600 would be better only because it leads to 400 max lords/heroes, and minimum core, as opposed to 375. In reality a 1600 point game and a 1500 point game are the same size as far as time and number of units on the table are concerned.

More up for discussion, I think, is 40K. In this case it is important to remember that at 2000 points the force org chart doubles, meaning you can have 3-4 HQ, and up to 6 fast attack/heavy so long as your willing to take 4 troops. I know I have a list written for one force organization chart at 1999 points.

I have been reading some 40k discussion and articles online, and it seems that at tournaments for the <2000 point category  it is becoming more and more common to use 1850. There are arguments why this is, essentially calling it a restricted 2000 point army. Some more competitive players will say that they can build stronger lists at 1850 than at 1999. What are your thoughts on 1850? Should we stick with 1500, 1750 and 2000, or should I start writing up a new list?

I don't play FoW but I'm sure there are interesting things to say about that as well.

Anyways, since nobody commented on my last post, I don't assume anyone will comment here, but it would bring me warm feelings if you did.

Winter Table, Ready For Gaming.

So, I did a little more work on that winter table and think it's about ready for gaming. I patched up the brown holes in the snow and made some blasted tree markers for the forests. All the terrain is rearrangeable 

I found these nifty little bunkers in the war-games room; they're perfect for FoW. I think it all turned out very pretty. I think I still need to make some more blasted trees for the forests as they look a little sparse right now. 

Me and The Darkster will probably play on this bad boy on the weekend. If we do, I'll post some deets.

I really like this last picture, the wall makes for a good horizon. 

Also we played Apocalypse at one point. No big D. Wooster Shooster posted the pictures. We played 13000 points a side. Reporting the entire battle would take thousands of man-hours, so it's not gonna happen. 

Finally, I'm still disappointed that me and Shooster are the only ones posting.

Snow Table and Snow Terrain

So, I got bored and made a snow table for the RMCC Wargames Club. What did you guys do with your evening? 

I thought I should post about it, maybe guilt you bitches into doing something with your lives.

It's kind of an awkward size (3'x6'), but it should be good for slightly smaller games. I need to do some finishing on it to clean up spots where the white stuff didn't take. I might carve some craters in as well, just for that added detail.

Needless to say I am super exited to play my new Coy of 101st Airborne on this table. Also, I don't think I mentioned that I got a Coy of 101st Airborne.

I also started on some terrain for this table; it's pictured below. The terrain needs finishing work as well (I can only do so much in one day), But will go nicely with my winter 101st. I did all the hills with a fairly low gradient, they should be fine for either 15mm or 25mm scale. I figure they'll at least let teams in Flames of War shoot over each other, you already get bulletproof cover if you dig in. Perhaps we'll say teams in trenches automatically pass their check to dig in? 

Keep in mind that these aren't quite done...

A hill, about 1.5cm in height at its highest, with a small cliff on one side.

Another hill, same height, with a shallow foxhole for 25mm or trenches for 15mm .
It can fit 2 Flames of War medium bases and one small base.

Here I got 3 short snowdrifts (about .5 cm high), They'll only be suitable for 15mm.
I also made 2 more hills, slightly shorter than the others, probably only good for 15mm. One has trenches for two medium bases and the other has trenches for two medium bases and a small base.
